In one of the courtyards within San Diego's Mission Alcala, stands a statue of St. Francis. Adjacent to it is a small raised pool, where resident white doves drink or preen their feathers. This tranquil courtyard, serene and restful, is ideal - a place to contemplate and reflect. The statue placed within the trunks of the palm tree gives added interest to the visual stability of the statue. The cool wall shadow on the right was appropriate to give the left the desired dominance. Don painted this iconic San Diego scene at some point in the late 1990s or early 2000s.
