Mascaron Steli

For centuries, this stone steli was lodged at the foot of a Maya temple stairway.  Hidden in the dense jungles of Belize, near the Mexican border.  This mysterious stone slab was only recently discovered in a  grave of murky tangled undergrowth.  To paint this work Don first coated the white paper with acrylic gloss to allow wiping pigment away as the painting proceeded.  This also allowed a freedom of throwing the paint to give the desired look.
